In the last month or so Shuba, with partner Devaki, created a new arts hub at Ashburton Hall.
Saturday, was launch day.
Torrential rain inevitably led to a rather bizarre start to the day: the coffee vendor trying to pull out thinking rain would reduce footfall, and the lovely Indian Mobile dosa shop getting stuck in the mud, and everyone trying to push it out. Unfazed, the team saved the day by assembling a zigzag walkway to the Mobile Dosa shop using a dozen or so planks of 4x2 that just happened to be lying around. And the coffee vendor turned up too.
With all that though, Shuba and Devaki triumphed over it all and created a memorable, creative, artistic day, filled with a broad array of classes, performances, etc. and so many people. I saw several yoga classes of different styles, many dance classes from traditional Indian styles to modern street dance, martial arts, hula hoop, painting, exhibitions, and more.
I ran an iPhone Photography class for beginners and had a blast. Judging from one persons meticulous notes I seem to have done reasonable well: I was pleased to hear I uncovered a few hidden features, even for long-time users of iPhone Camera, such as AE/AF lock and manual exposure adjustment, etc.
After the event Shuba has since spent long hours answering comments and emails from many happy attendees (of the whole event, not my class) and getting ready for more next week.
Great job Shuba!
